Warm water and a clean cloth. No window cleaners. We see so many damaged computer screens while we’re out in the field working on computers. Often times it’s the result of the owners using harsh chemicals that are totally unnecessary when it comes to removing dust or finger prints from the screen.

Recently, I was talking to a couple of friends about computers. They were telling me that their current PC was old and slow and that they were strongly considering buying a new one. I told them that I’d look at their “old” PC and see if I could help salvage their old information so that they could transfer it over to their new one.

After spending 2 minutes with their “old” PC. I realized two things. It was slow but actually not that old or out-dated.
Heck, it was running XP, and decent RAM and a more than adequate processor for what they used it for. So I broke out my ‘toolbox’ and scanned their system registry. It was cluttered with old and unused registry keys and left over junk from deleted malware and the like.

Since cleaning the system registry – the computer is running much, much faster and will probably allow them extra time to put a few more miles on it until they really get serious about upgrading to a new computer.

Sometimes the solutions to a client’s computer problems can be as simple as a faulty keyboard. Such was the case today. The client’s PC was not getting past post on the Windows XP OS. A simple switch out of the Molalla computer’s keyboard did the trick and the customer was happy.
