Computer Repair + Cleaning in Oregon City

Elderly client had a failing network card and excess dust inside the case. The computer is 7 years old. We replaced the network card, removed all dust & hair from the inside of his case, and even hooked his new printer up for him. We even printed up one of our coupons (Google Coupons) for him with his new printer.

The nice gentleman even offered Kel a beer – which Kel politely declined (or so he says! ;)

Social Networking Sites and Your Privacy

Many of our clients use Facebook, Twitter, Myspace, etc. with two huge misconceptions:

  1. “My page or my ‘space’ belongs to me.” This is totally false. It belongs to the company whose service you’re using. They own the site, they own/rent the servers and essentially they own any and all material that you share on it. In fact, many of these companies mine the data from their users and then pass it along to other companies for profit.
  2. “I can just delete info about me and it’s gone forever.” 100% wrong. Servers keep logs of deleted data and often archive it. Anything you’ve ever said or done on the Internet is likely to be stored somewhere – waiting for someone to retrieve it – either you or someone else. (Past or present employers, spouses, friends, law enforcement, etc.)

Social networking via the Internet is a fantastic tool. Please keep in mind to never post anything that you would not mind someone digging up about you in the future. Respect the permanence.

IE6 Users – Upgrade Your Browsers

A common worry we see out in the field is people using outdated web browsers such as Internet Explorer 6 (IE6). Here are our top 3 reasons that you should upgrade an outdated browser:

  1. Security – Old versions contain many holes enabling nasty sites and scripts to infect your PC with relative ease.
  2. Speed - The latest browsers are designed to handle today’s best sites more efficiently so that they load faster.
  3. Overall Experience – Websites simply look and perform better in the latest version browsers.

So there you have it. Keep your web browsers up to date and  your internet surfing experience will stay smooth.

Bing, A fresh alternative to Google

Trust us – Google has been our favorite search engine since 1999 (before the masses even knew what the word meant). But every now and then people need a break from the norm and need a change of pace. We’ve found that with Microsoft’s Bing. Not only does it look better than Google, it has a great map feature as well that easily rivals that of Google Earth. Take a look at Bing. It may surprise you.

Review: Carbonite Online Computer Backup

Many of our clients lose valuable data due to computer disasters. After trying various online data backup services, our choice is Carbonite. You simply download the client software, install onto your PC, select the folders/files in which you would like it to back up, and it does the rest for you. Your valuable data is encrypted for your privacy, and then uploaded onto their servers. And retrieving your data is fast and effortless. In our minds, for $55 a year ($99 for 2 years) Carbonite Data Backup is very cheap insurance.

It runs quietly in the background as you continue working, uploading updated files as you go. It also takes very little system resources unlike the others we tested. 5/5 stars.
